The Power of Consistency

A friend of mine who runs a skincare brand was venting about the pressure to have perfect skin. Founder-led consumer brands will do that to you… you are the walking, talking billboard for your brand.

As a health and wellness founder building a protein gel brand, no less, the pressure to keep up muscle mass and stay fit feels very real, yet harder than ever. Building something all-consuming doesn’t exactly pair well with routine sleep, workouts, or balanced meals…

So this year, I skipped my usual lofty New Year’s fitness challenges and chose one goal: get 10,000 steps a day. To my surprise, it is the only New Year’s resolution I’ve ever kept this long.

This has taught me something obvious but important: small, sustainable goals mitigate against big, all-or-nothing thinking. Consistency compounds. Little by little, things move.

Which is also how we’re building NEAP.

LESSONS LEARNED

Holiday Manufacturing

One very practical lesson from this month: manufacturing over the holidays is hard.

Manufacturing runs can only be described as a Triple Lindy, but adding in holiday closures and a winter storm impacted our (already buffered) timeline way more than anticipated.

Inventory planning for a young startup with cash constraints is a constant challenge, so this wasn't a surprise to us, but is something we look forward to continuing to improve upon!

We've been working behind the scenes on a limited-edition NEAP hoodie inspired by our brand packaging. Michelle has poured dozens of hours into every detail to create the highest quality hoodie for you. We're currently refining the sizing and design based off of the samples pictured above. Choosing the Hard Road

By now, you’ve all seen the launch of NEAP Extreme Sour as our newest product line.

Early on, an advisor gave me very reasonable advice: start with one product and one flavor. Keep it simple, learn quickly, and decide later whether you want to be a new product company or a new flavor company.

We didn’t do that. Instead, we launched four flavors across six offerings - and now we’re adding another product to the mix while simultaneously innovating on new iterations of NEAP behind the scenes. 

Taking the harder, more ambitious path is simply part of who we are, and it has given us something invaluable: an abundance of real, diverse data, right away.

NEAP is built for people doing hard things so it only made sense to build the company the same way.
